Mindful Minions: A Calm and Cozy Storybook Corner

Welcome to Mindful Minions: A Calm and Cozy Storybook Corner, where we turn the chaos of childhood into something almost zen-like—emphasis on almost. Here, children aged 3-6 gather 'round for story time that's less once upon a time and more what if dinosaurs practiced yoga? Our team of storytellers and activity gurus will read tales that captivate your minions while also slipping in a little emotional regulation on the sly. Think of it as sneaky therapy, but with dragons and princesses.

Interactive activities keep the fun rolling and the wiggles at bay (fingers crossed), all while teaching your kids how to navigate those big, messy feelings. And hey, we totally get that each child is their own little tornado of emotions, which is why we encourage them to bring along their own cozy sidekick—a blanket, a stuffed animal, or heck, even a favorite pair of socks. Because let’s face it, being emotionally balanced is way easier when you’re wrapped up in something snuggly.

So, join us Mindful Minions, where we might not have it all figured out, but we're having a darn good time trying. Come for the stories, stay for the sanity-saving life hacks.

December Book:

My Wandering Dreaming Mind: Merriam Sarcia Saunders

“Sadie feels like her thoughts are soaring into the clouds and she can’t bring them back down to earth. She has trouble paying attention, which makes keeping track of schoolwork, friends, chores, and everything else really tough. Sometimes she can only focus on her mistakes. When Sadie talks to her parents about her wandering, dreaming mind, they offer a clever plan to help remind Sadie how amazing she is.”

November Book:

A Grandpa Joe Day: Bill Shea

Billy has been waiting for this day forever: his grandpa, Joe, is taking him to his favorite amusement park. When Billy wakes up that morning, he looks out the window and sees that it is raining hard. He quickly turns on the news to get the weather report. The weather person says, "Sorry, kids, but today looks like a washout." Billy becomes worried that Grandpa Joe won't come and the day will be canceled because of the weather. Will the day be a washout? Or one of the best days ever? Find out in this inspiring and whimsical illustrated picture book from first-time author/illustrator Bill Shea. This book is dedicated to his grandfather, Joe, who never gave up on a mission in the spirit of sharing love and creating lasting memories.”

October Book:

How I Feel When I hear the word “no”: Ronit Farzam

“Kids hate the word “no”! It can make them feel mad and sad, turning them into a dragon that breathes fire, a mischievous wizard, and a raging volcano. It can make them want to destroy everything in their path. With a parent’s help, together they can find the best way to turn a NO into a YES. An engaging story that uses imaginative metaphors to explore a child’s anger when his mom tells him “no”.”

September Book:

The Perfect Sushi: Emily Sakoto Seo

“Miko likes things to be perfect. When she makes lopsided sushi for her grandmother’s birthday, she replaces it with perfectly formed sushi created by a restaurant robot. Upon delivering her gift, Miko discovers that kokoro (heart) – not impeccability – is the key ingredient to the perfect present. Sprinkled with engaging onomatopoeia, this unique title is infused with Japanese culture and delivers a universal message about the value of intention. A do-it-yourself sushi recipe is included.”
